07.26.07

Thursday 26th

Today we review presentation skills. We watched a small documentary on behind the scenes of "finding nemo". We discussed the DO's and Don'ts of presentations, information that we will hopefully apply later on science fairs (in my case Solar Olympics and MESA). In the afternoon session we had a lecture on Algorithms, even though I love Math this type of Math makes me think so hard it gives me headaches. That is why I rely upon sugar(it helps).
Tonight we will have a Bone Fire, yoyo with Liz!, and the Chickadees will start shooting tonight.

07.25.07

Wednesday
Well, let me start by stating that for me to write a blog requires my total inspiration. I just read my last 2 blogs and they were...not real blogs...therefore, I am going to make it up with my new blog.
So today was movie time!
Yes we played or 1 to 2 min. videos. Even though our team had the movie done we couldn't make it an avi file, but later with the help of Ming we were able to. Hopefully I still remember how he did it. Also, just in case team #1 reads this, I want to thank the iWish team for helping me out installing the Adobe Premiere pro on my laptop. "You guys rox"
Anyways back to the educational side of this experience, we basically played around with the different blending modes and with chopping videos, it was mainly a taste experience. I felt as if it was more like what you really want from a clip. (What sends the message)

All of the project were great, and they were all hilarious. I specially like how each team capture a special moment in a particular way. The class was great today, and yes finally my team got a camera that you can actually export the tape out into a computer. Even though it is a little bit bigger the new camera seems to have more quality.
In the afternoon session, we learn or Re-practiced Probability. My math analysis teacher would insist over and over again for us to take probability and statistics and college, and when I heard Joe advising us that too I think that then we probably should give it a try. The class was fun too, we worked with glambing, and please Parents don't get scared. Well, Lichita (mommy) I know you don't get freak out but for those of you out there that do, you need to understand that gambling is ALL ABOUT PROBABILITY, ALL ABOUT MATH, I personally think it has nothing to do with LUCK.
Anyways, moving on to Residential life, after class we went to get jamba juice mine was a mango one. Then we hanged out in the living room, after that we went to eat dinner (note: all of our meals are fun we laugh all through out). After that we went back to our dorms for our floor meeting and had some study time (we went to the lab to gather ideas). As far as activities we picked the "Guess who is gay". It was a pretty cool activity, it was mature, and I wish more people could get a chance to attend this small discussion.
Then we walk back to our dorms, I talk on the phone with my friend Jonathan (he discovered a new talent). After taking a shower and eating some mexican food...I am taking a break to write my loooooooong blog. How great, may be I am typing so much that people will get bored from reading it, which is not necessarily its purpose.
Good night,
11:23 pm

07.24.07

So today we presented our Make-up-O-Matic
I loved our idea, I specially love how we had so much fun selling the product to our roommates. It was fun working together in our living room, cutting and gluing the backboard together. It came out way better than what we (the Chickadees had expected).
Tonight was the boys vs. girls battle. It was fun yet unfair, it was unfair how the questions were formulated. And the males kept shouting out loud the answers. Even though girls lost we know that we are the ruling gender. That is just how we are!
The activity was fun but it interfered with our procrastination process. (Yes, I am talking about the video thanks to which I went to bed until 1am.)

Note:
for "understanding" purposes I would write we meaning (the chickadees company).

07.23.07

Monday
On Monday our team worked hard on the backboard and the proposal that was due Tuesday. Yes, we procrastinated, and hopefully we would change that. Specially, since all the different projects are starting to come on us. We should start to work, specially on deciding what we REALLY, a discussion would be good.

Saturday and Sunday
Sunday was not my day. Even though I was suppose to be happy because my mom came to visit one of the R.A.ruined it for me. He was being so rude, at the top floor (#4) there were 3 families visiting their daughter and some of my friends could not take showers because of the people present. At my floor (3) only a girl's parents came and visited. At that time my mom and brother came to pick me up, since they brought me heavy stuff, my mom and brother were going to help me out carry stuff up and down. Well, not so until the R.A. told them not to come up stairs, I explained him that so many people (males and females, young and old) were upstairs he rudely said no. Since my mom had to go the the ladies room I told my brother to take her to the Conference room. I thought it was so disrespectful because I felt that my family was being pointed at, and I thought it was room for him to scream at them when they do not speak English. I am still getting mad about it every time I remember it, because literally practically ANYONE was at the dorms. :S On Saturday, was Harry Potter day. Several of the COSMOS students went to the book store to buy it, they were reading non stop. Therefore, one of the R.A. had to ask them to please don't take it to the field trip to Los padres game or else he would read the last 10 pages of the book in the microphone.

Dance day!
Today I loved class time, even though we are still wondering what to do with the 2 minutes project, my group is planning on "get it moving" meaning that we need to concentrate. Hard, but a guy form adobe came, he was a total pro with dobe photoshop. We learned so many cool tricks, stuff that if I go for photography I may use. Coming here to COSMOS has changed my mind comnpletely, now I am finding that I don't want to get my Math major and my teaching credential, I found so many other things that I like and I can make a career out of them. (Graphic design, dance minor, photography, film). After the workshop we came back to our dorms, ate dinner, and yes all the SKITTLEs and new SKITTLEs hanged out at the 4 floor bathroom to do our hair and make up. It was great hanging out with the girls. The dance was all right, but all the music had the same beat.
Lights out was at 12, my floor was practically death since we were all really tired form dancing.
And that's it.!

Exhausting
Long and packed day.

Today we presented (Luis & me) and all of the teams on photoshop and how to make a good movie. It was not that much of a nerveracking event because I felt comfortable with the audience. We received a general feedback as to what we should do for our next presentation. We were also assigned a backboard( also known as display). Well, we need to get the backboard first, but hopefully, we(our team) will do a good job on it.
We also taked about proposal.
Then we got extended lunch, and we went to a career day. A representative form Qualcomm came, Mrs. Yoli, and 2 counselors. Then we had a question and answer period with 3 R.A.s
What else...
Umm I watched my backpack and towels, I went rock climbing (it was a pretty good excersice). Oh and also we are missing a Skittle (Caty).
Tomorrow we are going to work with Mr. Paul, I love the photoshop and the Adobe Premiere (even though I still don't know how to use it). Hopefully, our team" get's it together good " and do outstanding on out last project.
It has been 2 weeks already in COSMOS, time flies away. Tomorrow we havea a dance, and there will be a girly meeting at Sonias.
I am tired from the excercise, and I just ate a burger and fries.
Oh yes, we played Jenga at our floor meeting.
I think that is all for the day.

Python day!

Today was the usual at Cafe Ventanas..no no no!

Today my lunch at Cafe Ventanas ruled! I loved the Chicken enchiladas, even though they did not taste like the real ones, and they had a burrito shape they were the closest I can get to my so miss mexican food.

So yeah, I got my bro's bday present, hopefully it fits him. I can't wait for my mom to come visit me, not because of the missing part but for the food she is bringing me. :)

Today we worked with Python. I got to do a code with the help of the book, notes, and previous codes. Although, it was pretty slow, it still did it's job. Hopefully I get better at Python.

I am happy about my team, and I am eager to start with the project, Teresa, Sonia, and Caty are great girls, I know we are definitely going to get along. Even though, we are worrying about our lack of knowledge, we are still being positive that we are going to try our best!!!

Well, going back to Python, yeah...it is pretty much not my strong point. :) so I decided to work on it some extra. Maybe like some extra minutes on the so call "study time" would help. Actually, today my study time was packed with finishing up the 2 power points that I will present tomorrow with my partner (Luis Topete).

Back to R.L. (residential life) at dinner I laughed more than what I ate. (thanks Skittle girls). So after study time me and the girls went to play kick ball , and then they proceed to football, while I was busy talking with my daddy and eating my "Maruchan". Then I went back to the dorms, took a shower, talked on the phone, myspaced, and yeah, sit her to blog my day. Amazing huh?

Anyways, let's chase to the point. Now you will see some of the laters pictures.

Discover, analyze, abacus

Today we went to a discovery lecture. I must admit that at points I was completely lost, but then again I sort of find it interesting. Then we went back to the class and talked about how can we improve the power points. We had 2 power points assigned. My partner is going to be Luis. We better get it going, also Luis is going to help me a little bit with my AP CALCULUS..lucky me. I hope I don't get to nervous whenever we have to present.
We also have to do an answer for a the discussion board. I took pictuers today of us trying the abacus and the slide ruler. It was fun!
I am liking the class, well I mostly like it when it is parts that I understand.

Brake it

Today we learned more on photoshop and on a progrma call Adobe premium pro. I hope I can get use to it since I am used to imovie. Class was great, I understand just aobut everything. :)

It was the first time we walked on our own. We got on time..SURPRISING HUH?

Well, for lunch me and the girls went to Price Center I got Rubios and did not like it at all, but hey you got to it. :)

Today, I tried to brake my rutine a little bit. Stephanie, Chelsea, Catalina, Sonia, me and other girls from the 4th floor finally finished watching Take the Lead, some of us cried, it was ROMANTIC. Afterwards we played Waterballon War for like 2 min. and we then watched Mean girls. That movie has catchy phrases, it was funny though.

One thing that I am liking abous COSMOS is how in every activity you seat near a stranger and in 2-3 min. you start feeling comfortable with that one person and start opening up. So it is hard to be shy, only a few of the COSMOPOLITAN are still on their "Shell" ...but not for long :)

Oh by the way as we were getting ready for the "water", Sonia, Brianda and Caty, were wearing their towels in a funny way so we took a picture...>>

funny huh?

ps. I didn't get wet at all, but I tripped lol. (not a twisted ankle aka. caty)

Sunday

Painting and more...

Today was a laidback day.
I started up the late with some xtra sleeping, after breakfast I came back to the dorms and got ready for acrylic painting with Krista. As cluster #1 waited, we set and listen to a girl played the violoncello.

I am no artist, but my betty-boo did not came as ugly as I thought it was going to be. I took step by step pictures on it. I call this the making of a "BOO!"

Cover table, do gridlines to the original paper, tranfer the drawing to the cardboard...Start painting.

We met new girls, they stay at the 4th floor, so we watched Take the Lead with them. With salty and sweet popcorn. We didn't get to finish it. The afternoon games were rootbeer float, backwards baseball, and Gray's anatomy marathon. We just walked arounf for half an hour, and then we went back to our floor, joke around and hangout with the girls form the suite across us.
Then I call it a night, after you know the usual nighttime calls.

7.14.07

Saturday...to beach or not to beach that is the question

Today was beach day, since some of us have a RED DOT on us, we stay here at the latin hall living room. I thought it was going to be a really long day, and turns out it was not boring at all. At first, it was hot, but we managed to move the furniture and we freshened ourselves. Kevin, catalina, Sonia, and me! played Monopoly, Kevin lost all his property :( Then wwe ate lunch, we ate cookies and ice cream, we hanged out, it was fun after all. I woke up at 7:15am and after breakfast I did my laundry and talked on the phone with JOANNA, who i miss very much. Turns out she is going to an all star team league to San Francisco. COOL. At nighttime, we played Iron chef, Catalina got all serious into the game. It was funny. Who knows who won, I am pretty sure it was not us, but yet we had soooo much fun.
Yay!

7.13.07

7.13.07

So, yeah this blog is being posted late thanks to my anti-virus restarting set up. But anyhow, I hope I rember what I had typed before this.

So today (meaning friday) we worked some more on (01)binary. It was good refreshing what we have learned on the previus lecture. That was how I notice that I didn't recall the decimal and the 0x.

Mrs. Alvarado comes from Fullerton (she takes a train to come down here to teach US) (yes only for US). Well, at least I learned something about dedication to students. Hopefully, I am that dedicated when I get to be a high school teacher. Mrs. Miranda is a AP Statistics teacher at her hometown high school. (Just what I want to be!) Maybe she can tell me about the teaching credential program here at UCSD.

Today the RGB was not on my side, or so to day that I was lost with the CODES. But after struggling with it all day long I made the whole picture blue. After a long reflection (at nighttime) I concluded that ..."yeah maybe I may find that Computer Science will not be my career at college I still can learn a lot about life here at COSMOS". And it is pretty much what we all (150 students) are here for. We learned about life, independence, making friendships with strangers, finding out what people from all over California may have in common with you.

At the Haunted Tour we got to listen to talking trees, we heard creppy stories and...

as I was walking bye I saw a friend from Holtville here at CAMPUS! But he was busy, guess I will talk to him back in Holtville.

Well, as past of the misterious stories we came to a graffiti place and I found this ....

This reads CHIKALI it is another word for my hometown. Nice to see how somebody left their mark. Well in this area practically just anyone SHOULD and DOES leave a mark. Well I also came acroos thi sone line that as written on those colorful walls, it's the next image..

Yeah it may sound a little bit creppy, but it is not. Think about it..."don't take the things in life too hard because it can kill you". THe same way some of the people here have not left things on their life break them apart, the same way some of us struggle with diseases everyday, and yet the only way to think, is the POSITIVE WAY(+)

Therefore in conclusion.......
"What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger"( dedicated to a not so strong human being that I met today [I got your back])

07.12.07

07.12.07

Today I woke up 10 min. later than what I am use to, but I still got it together before time. Last night I talked to some friends from my hometown I kind of disconnected for the last things going at Holtville but I am catching up at a slow pace. It was my brothers' bday, HAPPY BDAY bro' if you read this. Last night the activity that I participated in was board games. I learned how to play "Clues" even though I had no -clue- of what I was doing, it was still pretty fun!
After that I went back to my dorm, entertain
myself (phone, tv, computer) and took a shower. (Just about the usual at the dorm).
Last night our cluster finish the 1 min. dance. It was surprising how was we pulled it off. The routine itself its funny and holiday-like.
Today during class time with Mrs. Miranda we learned about what we are going to do as a project. We received our first assignment. It looks easy (I think), let's see how I do it at it. I learned a lot about how to present in front of class. I am hoping that I will not let my team down when we present, since I can get really shy and nervous.

In the afternoon session we, well, the class discussed on A.I. (artificial intelligence). I kept quiet for the second session because my headache and half of my body were extremely hurting. Hopefully I can find good pills that would help "that pain" go away.

Tonight after dinner (6:00 pm) we are having the Cluster Olympics, even though the excitement it is still not in the air, I think the "CLUSTER SPIRIT" will appear when we most need it.

Well, I think that is about it so far.

(The 2 people shown at the picture are Cluster 1 R.A. (Lindsay and Nick)

07.11.07

Today was an exciting day. Well even though it is not over yet I have had fun ALL DAY LONG. I am meeting knew people and just enjoying this experience more. Today at lecture I learned a lot. I learned the binary language . It seemed hard at first but I think I am getting it. Then we moved on to the pixels. I am learning A LOT. I thought I was wa behind the class but turns out only 2 or 3 people really know just about everything on programming.

Today I am watching the MEXICO vs Argentina game. I hope we win. Today we are getting it on with our dance for the OLYMPICS. I really like my partner he is cool, and loves to dance. (Just like me).

Yesterday, I went to the sunset wak it was nice. Today we are doin g different activities. We ARE having too much fun and yet we ARE learning A LOT. (fast and fun) the 2 F's principle.!!!

07.10.07

Long Day...(busyness)

Today seemed like a short day, but I feel it was the longest so far. I don't know why, but my body feels so tired. I am not the only one that feels tired because we all feel sleepy. Hopefully I would get an energy boost by the end of the day so that I can do some of the activities. Since I took yesterday off to contact Holtville and Mexicali.
Today we went to Balboa Park for a conference/discussion called "MySpace or Your Space". At the discussion, parents were concerned about privacy on community websites. It made me think about changing some stuff on my "myspace", maybe deleting some of my information and deleting the 2 unknown people that are on my "friends" list.
At class time we were introduce to computer science, it seems interesting I learned complicated words today. Let's see if I can ADD them to my vocabulary.
Today we are having Sunset walk, Recess, and Journal Making, I am going to try to attend one of them, as soon as I get my homework done. I met Luis the guy from Calexico turns out I had already met him before, but just did not remembered the face. We have some friends in common.
